Detention Officers perform difficult protective service and human support work ensuring the care and security of inmates at the Moore County Detention Center. Qualified applicants should check with the Moore County Detention Center to ascertain if there are any openings. 

     Requirements;
     Must be a citizen of the United States
     Must be at least 21 years of age
     Must have a high school diploma or GED
     Must have a valid North Carolina driver's license
     Must submit to a background check and drug screening
     Must be able to work various shifts
     Must have not been convicted of any felonies or certain misdemeanors
     and must be able to sucessfully complete the Detention Officer Certification.

Detention Officer 1:

Detention Officers may be required to stand for long periods of time, walk 100 yards or more 24-36 times in a 12 hour shift and use stairs frequently. Some heavy lifting is required and physical confrontations with inmates are a possibility. Good communication skills are needed to express or exchange ideas and to convey detailed information. Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision. Some knowledge of basic computer skills is helpful. Detention Officers may be subjected to inside and outside environmental conditions such as extreme cold, heat, and atmospheric conditions.  Due to the nature of the work, applicants should not have a fear of enclosed spaces. Officers may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.

Qualified applicants can submit a completed Personal History Statement (F-3) (preferably typed or neatly written), a photocopy of their current North Carolina driver's license and a photocopy of their birth certificate at the Moore County Sheriff's Office Monday thru Friday from 8am-5pm.
