Funding Sought for Wagram Regional Water/Sewer Study

March 3, 2010

Carthage, NC.  An informational meeting was held in Laurinburg on January 25, 2010, organized by Representative Jamie Boles, to explore regional interest in determining the future possible use of the Wagram water and sewer plants.  Those in attendance at this meeting, hosted by the City of Laurinburg, included representatives of Moore, Scotland, Hoke, Robeson counties, and Laurinburg. Each were asked to consider and express whether or not interest exists in pursuing state grant funding to study the viable alternatives and the consequent financial costs.

During the Moore County Board of Commissioners meeting on March 1, 2010, the Board voted 5-0 to approve a motion to notify the Lumber River Council of Governments of its interest in the COG, the Senators and Representatives present to seek, funding for the study of these two plants with respect to future use.  Moore County understands that this action expresses an interest in the study and implies no financial obligation for the study or thereafter.  The County will review the analysis and alternatives presented when the funded study is completed.

No additional action is needed by the Board of Commissioners at this time.  Should you require any other information contact the County Manager’s Office at 910-947-6363.
